A Leathershire full grain leather apron, with basic care, will last 10–20 years or more. Leather is inherently one of the most durable materials available for workwear. It does not tear, fray, or degrade in the way that fabric alternatives do. Our leather aprons are also designed to improve in appearance over time.
Leathershire's standard leather range uses natural tanning processes and finishes wherever possible. Our crazy horse pull-up leathers are treated with a natural wax finish that provides their distinctive appearance and light water resistance. We do not use harsh chemical coatings or synthetic sealants on our full grain leather products.
To choose the right leather apron size, measure two dimensions: (1) your chest/torso width at the widest point — this determines the bib width you need; and (2) your height from shoulder to knee — this determines the apron length. Most of our aprons feature fully adjustable neck straps (adjustable by up to 6 inches) and waist ties (long enough to wrap around most waist sizes and tie at the front or back). If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up for greater coverage. Detailed measurements are listed on every individual product page.
Yes.Our aprons for women section highlights the styles most popular with female chefs, barbers, potters, and craftspeople. If you have specific sizin questions, please contact us before ordering and we will be happy to advise.
A crossback apron, also called a crossbody apron, has straps that cross at the back of the wearer's body rather than tying behind the neck. This distributes the weight of the apron across both shoulders rather than concentrating it at the neck — making it significantly more comfortable for extended wear. Crossback aprons are particularly popular with chefs, hairdressers, and barbers who wear an apron for many hours each day. Leathershire offers several crossback leather apron styles, all with fully adjustable leather straps.
Leathershire offers the following personalisation options on selected products: (1) Name embossing — your chosen name or initials stamped into the leather surface; (2) Custom message — a short personalised message on a name plate or the leather itself; (3) Business logo embossing — available on wholesale orders for branded professional aprons.
If your leather apron gets wet, pat it dry immediately with a clean absorbent cloth — do not rub, as this can push water further into the leather fibres. Allow the apron to dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat sources. Once completely dry, apply a leather conditioner to restore the oils that water can strip from the leather.
For fresh grease stains on a leather apron, blot (do not rub) the excess grease immediately with a clean dry cloth. Then lightly dust the area with talcum powder or cornstarch and leave for several hours. This draws the grease out of the leather. Brush away the powder gently.
While olive oil and coconut oil are sometimes recommended as home leather conditioners, we advise against using them on Leathershire products. These oils can oxidise over time, causing the leather to darken unevenly, develop an unpleasant smell, and potentially weaken the leather fibres. They can also attract mould in humid environments.
